Christmas in Marbella

Christmas in Marbella is a wonderful time of year. It may never be a ‘white’ Christmas —although one can go to the Sierra Nevada for snow— but that doesn’t mean Marbella lacks any of the festive cheer or the dazzling decorations that are an essential part of the season.

Seeing the Christmas lights

Marbella and Málaga have a long tradition of installing spectacular Christmas lighting displays in the streets. Málaga in particular puts on a fantastic display and travelling to the city to see them has become something of a tradition. In the city’s Calle Larios, there are nightly son et lumiére displays in addition to the lights, offering an evening’s entertainment and an opportunity to dine out afterwards at one of Málaga’s excellent restaurants.

Christmas fairs and markets in Marbella

Christmas fairs play an important role in the run up to Christmas and the quality of the settings and the products for sale have ensured their enduring popularity with shoppers. Puerto Banús is hosting a Christmas Market with playground, wooden stalls and several activities at the Antonio Banderas square, which will be open until 6th January.

Christmas dining in Marbella and surroundings

Marbella also excels at providing top drawer cuisine, and at Christmas the Puente Romano, Marbella Club and Kempinski hotels all offer a superior seasonal dining experience, with special menus available for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve. The parties that see out the old year are often themed at these five-star hotels, and are the ultimate in party glamour. They are, of course, terribly popular and one needs to book well in advance to be sure of getting tickets.

There is so much more, with concerts and other Christmas events lined up at a variety of venues around the Marbella area. And, although it may be sunny over the festive period, you can be sure that in Marbella it will still feel like Christmas.
