As this edition of the DM Properties Newsletter coincides with the Festive Season it has a perhaps somewhat uncharacteristically wintry feel. For those not familiar with this time of year on the Costa del Sol we provide more information below.

New edition of Villae International out

The second edition of Villae International, the luxury property and lifestyle magazine published by EREN (European Real Estate Network), is out now. Filled with informative features and the finest properties in Europe, the magazine now also includes a sampling of the most exclusive properties in the United States.

Featuring prominently in this edition is the Alpine region, where many of EREN’s member agencies are based, yet Spain is well represented with articles on next year’s America’s Cup in Valencia, a charming country home in the village where painter Francisco Goya was born, and a feature on the sumptuous decorative creations of Spain’s own Philippe Starck, Jaume Tressera.

Coastal News

Marbella and its surroundings are famous for their summer atmosphere, year-round sunshine and the free, open lifestyle made possible by its gorgeous climate, yet even here there is a touch of winter between the months of December and February. During this short period beautifully clear, sunny days alternate with short rainy spells, while temperatures hover close to 20ºC.

Golfers herd to the courses on crisp sunny days when the streets fill with crowds of shoppers, yet the occasional bout of rain adds to a seasonal atmosphere endorsed by Christmas decorations and trips to ventas, country restaurants that offer hearty meals such as stews, steaks and game. A growing year-round population of foreign residents has done much to make Marbella a shopper’s paradise that offers a variety of options, including modern shopping centres and designer outlets, the stylish shops along Marbella’s main boulevard and in its old centre, and the rustic shops and country fairs of the interior. Either way, there is no need to fly off elsewhere for your Christmas shopping.

Winter wonderland

On these palm-fringes and sunny Mediterranean shores it is easy to forget, but about two hours from here Spain’s highest mountain range houses some of Europe’s finest ski slopes and winter sport resorts.

You may not associate southern Spain with alpine scenes and ski resorts, but the Sierra Nevada offers the finest skiing in the Mediterranean. From December to April, enthusiasts flock to the stylish resorts to ski, snowboard and enjoy a lively ‘après-ski’ atmosphere. Here, at altitudes of 2,500 to 3,500 metres, a variety of well-facilitated resorts offer over 65 kilometres of excellent pistes, with all the fresh snow, mountain air and magnificent scenery of an authentic alpine experience.
