Christie’s New York – US$388.5 million – Most Valuable Post-War and Contemporary Art Sale Ever

Christie’s auction hit record numbers on Wednesday 9th of May. Over 200 paintings, sculptures and paper works were featured, mainly belonging to abstract expressionist artists. The session’s surprise was Mark Rotho’s “Orange, red, yellow”, a 1961 oil painting that sold for $86.9 Million (€66.9 Million), which set a new record for any post-war and contemporary work sold at auction. This particular work belonged to the collection owned by David and Gerry Pincus and is now in the hands of an anonymous buyer.
