In 2002 golf generated €1.322 million for Andalucia

The Andalusia Golf Federation is promoting the construction of new golf courses and is trying to limit the amount of buildings in the surrounding areas.

The president of the Federation, Angel de la Riva, claims that golf is vital for Andalusia and should be considered as "an important source of income for the authorities".

De la Riva also pointed out, that at the moment there are 75 golf courses in the region, although it is hoped that there will be more than 100 by 2005. He also acknowledged that there is less land available in coastal regions, a reason for the trend in constructing courses on steep land. However, De la Riva stated that the new courses will be "of better quality and have better designs".
